Jakobsweg Day65 Geneva

We enjoyed our last day before heading home by touring the International Museum of the Reformation here in Geneva. It was surprisingly entertaining and interesting for anyone who likes history.

My favorites are below.

  1. A papal indulgence (one of the hot points of the Protestant movement)
  2. The First Peace of Kappel
On 26 June 1529, the First Peace of Kappel was agreed. Catholics and Protestants laid down their arms at the last minute and ate milk soup together.
  3. Protestant typical worship painting. Zoom in to see a) the sermon timer (45min to an hour) to keep the preacher from wandering from the Bible and into politics. b) the preparation for a baptism c) the dog (emphasizing the de-sanctification of the building itself) d) men and women worshiping together etc.
  4. The sermon timer and simple communion cup.
  5. French James II jousting accident which spurred on the French Wars of Religion
  6. A vivid depiction of the St Bartholomew’s Day massacre 1572
  7. Secrete hiding places for bibles during the reprisals and repression of Protestants in Catholic countries. One was a tiny Bible hidden in a woman’s hair bun.
  8. A painting of a Protestant service dismissal showing rich and poor worship together and a happy pastor as a result. But also showing the congregants turning their backs to the beggar and skeptics and two others relieving themselves after a too-long service.
  9. Catholic and Anti Catholic propaganda including a depiction of the protests (with turbans showing they were just like infidels) riding an elephant in a castle. The castle on the elephant was a motif of the papacy to this cartoon was meant to say the Protestants had become no better than the Papacy.

Again, there was so much more… I highly recommend this museum.

Later we had lunch of savory crepes and one sweet crepe

Finally we took a short stroll along the Geneva waterfront complete with its iconic water jet (highest in the world).

We said goodbye to Nadine on the tram since she has a 0-dark-hundred flight. Allison spent a quiet evening’s dinner together.

Our last step together

Tomorrow is travel day.

    1. So Gott will! Wir haben die Sicherheitskontrolle geschafft und warten auf unseren ersten Flug. Der Höhepunkt meiner Reise war der Besuch bei meiner Freundin in Grümpel. Gott segne dich, deine Familie und alle unsere Freunde dort.
