Jakobsweg Day46 Markdorf-Konstanz 15.8mi

PitterPat we woke up to rain on our tents. Ugh. That meant packing up wet tents which is a pain. But we survived the minor inconvenience.

We had a short day planned (some of the 15.8mi today was on a ferry across Bodensee). But we all agreed that our legs felt heavy for some reason.

Our path was filled with more orchards and some vineyards today. The rest was pleasantly wooded until we reached the outskirts of Meersburg on the north shore of Bodensee. That village is one in which I’d like to have spent a little more time. There was an old vibe about the place, but I have to admit it was really touristy.

We uneventfully found the ferry ticket office, purchased our tickets and boarded the ferry. While waiting to board we met a British couple who lived near Witney England. Pictures were taken!

The ferry was not only a milestone, but also something different to do. Nadine was kinda giddy about the experience. A ferry ride over a lake with the Alps as a scenic backdrop is pretty spectacular.

Nadine here….I’m so excited but TERRIFIED at the same time.  It’s so beautiful to look at and I’m going to keep my eyes on God’s beautiful creation while I climb in the next few days.

We met Monica and Thomas on the boat and had a lovely chat on the 30 minute ride over the lake. Thomas shared that one of the buildings in Konstanz was where Martin Luther spoke to the Pope about his concern with the Catholic church. That was a fun bit of history to learn.

Since we couldn’t check in to our lodging (the most expensive so far), we decided to make a laundramat run and get some lunch. Hurray! Half of our clothes smell much better. And our stomachs were appreciative of the Italian food we had for lunch.

Tonight we will cook for ourselves since our lodging has a tiny but full kitchen.

Tonight is such a contrast of lodging from last night.  Last night was rustic, tonight is luxurious.  The views last night were stunning; tonight is so very comfortable.  Click the link showing yesterday’s spot.

Tonight’s room

Funny to find a love in both of those things!  Funny to find a human desire in both of those things.  One of the things you discover while walking is who you are and that is part of the fun of walking.  Lots of time to think, lots of time to pray, lots of time to walk in God’s goodness in this life!

We celebrated tonight with a small bottle of Champagne….so um-pilgr m like but Mark and Allison always make things fun!  I love celebrating!!

That ferry ride looked fun! I’m sure it was a fun change of pace/something you certainly don’t get to do every day.

I know the Alps being so close is probably daunting, but it’s so beautiful to be at the foot of those mountains!

So glad the change of plans included a ferry. You guys deserve that change/treat. I chuckled at the “cutting the tags off clothes to save weight.” I’ve done that too. The video of approaching the last town in Germany was beautfiful–calm and serene. Then to top off the day, a luxurious room to rest. Ironic how you go from one extreme to the other–God’s plan, God’s design. Blessings on the remainder of the journey pilgrims!
