Jacobsweg Day28 From the woods to Nuremberg-12.5 miles

Last evening was truly an adventure. We camped in the woods with all the creatures. After a leisurely dinner of smoked salmon, potato salad, and rolls, we enjoyed our one beer. Mark was kind enough to hike over to a pub and buy 3 chilled beers. We headed to our tents and we’re asleep by 8 pm before the sun had even set.

Morning saw all of us better rested than the previous few mornings. We packed up our tents and headed out. We joked with each other on the way because we are all sticky and wearing the same fragrant outfits we had on yesterday.

We encountered a lady walking her 2 dogs. Claudia spoke to us and a conversation about camino ensued. She has a dream to go on Camino with her daughter. Mark gave her a Camino pin. Again nothing is random.

We decided to eat breakfast at a picnic table at a nice playground. Of course, we had to try out the equipment before leaving.

The rest of the afternoon was consisted of walking into the large city of Nuremberg. Because it is Sunday almost all shops are closed. After discovering one grocery open in the city on the way to our lodging , we diverted there. What an experience! The grocery was located underneath the train station. Lots of security to control the number of shoppers in the one-way store and probably theft too. It was a little crazy but fun.

We made it to our apartment for the night. Our host was here and so helpful. It is exciting to be able to prepare our own food in a fully functional kitchen.

Lovely morning walking through the cool woods after a night of wild camping.  Temperatures remained pretty comfortable all day long.  Good time of prayer for friends and family back home.

This afternoon we entered Nuremberg, a city with a lot of history.  We ended the walk through the city at the main train station in Nuremberg because the only grocery in town is located there. Much of Nuremberg was flattened during WWII but some old buildings remained. It was spooky to think that Hitler and several of his cronies came to the city by train at this station.

Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof
Over 450 trains stop here daily and more than 200,000 passengers use the station on average every day. It is also a major hub for public transport in Nuremberg.

Thank you for all the texts from back home. They are a treasure! Tonight we got to talk with our Mum after dinner… Always special.

Love to all, Nadine

Mark Epilogue

Nadine and I took a short 30min walk around the old city this evening. The air was slightly cool which was refreshing.

The city sounds too hectic for this country girl! I would prefer the quiet of the wilderness camp! Praying for your safety, good health and many more encounters with friendly folks. God bless you three. My joints ache just thinking of all the miles you have covered already. We miss you at Revo. Love, Darlene & George

The playground looks fun haha. Prayers for feet, knees, and back! And prayers the weather stays cooler for you. Do you know why many Europeans don’t have a/c? Seems like such a commonplace 21st century luxury for people not to take part in.
