Jakobsweg Day11 Přimda-Ödpielmannsberg 18.1 miles

Welcome to Germany!!

Last night we celebrated our last evening in Czech with a fancy BIG dinner. Note what we are wearing. The temps had dropped to the low 50’s

We had chicken pork, beef, pork ribs, grilled veggies, and mushrooms. (We needed to spend some left over Czech Krones anyway). We also treated ourselves to some wonderful deserts. Check it out…

After dinner a man sitting in the restaurant came over to our table. He’d heard us speaking in French (a long story) and wanted to practice his French. His name was Eugene (Americanized version of his real Ukrainian name). We quickly switched to English and chatted for about 30minutes. He was fascinating to talk to having lived in Ukraine, Russia, Africa, and Czech Republic. Say Hi to Eugene.

On to today, Day11. We started the day in the clouds.

It was a long walking day but the scenery was beautiful. We passed through some amazing light dappled forests and open fields.

We even had the opportunity to climb a 150m lookout tower (because 18mi was apparently it enough of a work out!!).

We made it to Germany where we will spend the next month.

Entering Germany was funny. Nadine was so looking forward to a physical border crossing of some sort. Much to her disappointment it was just a sign or two. We had a good laugh over that. But we are thankful that crossing the border between the Czech Republic and Germany now is safe and uneventful.

The walk today was cold to start but the sun did come out to play for a short period of time.

After getting settled at our lodging we met a Belgian fireman Davide and his dog Oscar.

Finally, here is a short compilation of our day.

Congratulations on entering Germany! It looks like the terrain has been flat. How many miles can you cover in an hour, disregarding stops for food, pictures, etc?

    1. The terrain has been gradually flattening over the last two days. That ends today when we reenter the hills.
Our “moving speed” is about 2.5mph. It is much less when there are raspberry bushes and Cherry trees to glean from! 🙂

The woods you walked through reminded me of a storybook! Beautiful.

The girls noticed a playground in your “almost to the border” video and want to know if you stopped to play on it? They also thought it was amazing that you met a dog and said he was “very cute”!

Love you guys and can’t believe you’ve crossed a whole country already!

    1. Those girls are so sweet. I’m sure they are that way all the time! We didn’t play on that playground but they have given me a new idea!!
We didn’t play climb that really tall tower though.
The dog was nice but shy. He allowed, it didn’t seem to really like petting.

Sure looked like Nadine had a lot of food in front of her. How does someone so small pack so much away? Has she turned into a human food disposal unit? 😉

congratulations on completing the Czech portion of your journey. “Higher up and further in.”

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zur Ankunft in Deutschland! Those woods look amazing–what a cool experience! Tell Nadine I miss her, and I’m praying for her strength and endurance, and I’m jealous of all the yummy European foods she’s eating!

The woods were incredible, mysterious and made me think of many children’s stories like Hansel and Gretel!

Did you ever walk on the Burgen Weg when you were here?
