Jakobsweg Day49 Au-Rapperswil 16.3mi

Our morning began a little later than normal. Our hosts prepared us breakfast at 7:30am which was lovely and very filling. Then Richi drove us to a high point where we could walk on our route.

Boy, was it up high. In my mind I was thinking we cannot possibly walk any higher this trip. Yet we began our walk…up hill or a mountain depending on your perspective.

The morning was full of inspirational mountain views. Being in Switzerland and seeing the Alps in front of you is just stunning. Plus it makes me appreciate how powerful and wonderful God is to have created such beauty for us mere humans to enjoy.

We accidentally got off our route for a short time. But we walked past an amazing granite and marble yard. We were all amazed at the scope and choices just out on the gravel lot. The joke was we were happy we cut out the tags in our clothes so we can carry a slab back with us. We could even ditch our rain gear now and just use the slab of stone to keep us dry.

Shortly after that we walked by an area that was a ski jump. I cannot even imagine using it.

Ski jump

We have seen lots of cows which I love. Today we heard cows playing bells plus we saw Scottish Highland Cows in Switzerland! You have to love the irony.

We shared a pilgrim’s meal with a gentleman from south of Zurich and then had three others join us for left overs and conversation.  What fun!  We’ll probably meet them again tomorrow night as we are heading to the same town.

There is so much more to share about today but honestly it’s gotten late here and we are too tired to say more. Good night all.

    Hi Mark/Allison and Nadine

Still loving your posts and all the photos and videos. It’s hard to think you have been through 2 countries and now in the third … and the alps!! Amazing. Question: Have you had to replace your shoes yet?

Stay safe. You are in my prayers daily.

    1. No, still using the same shoes. In fact, I have two pair of Hokas. One of them already had 350mi on them from our 2023 hike in Portugal. I’ve been very impressed with their endurance.
I did buy a replacement set of inserts however.

Hi Kim! Allison brought two pair of shoes with her and Mark brought one and a half…one new pair and one pair of used shoes. He ordered another pair that was delivered to his friend Gerhard’s home but they didn’t fit properly. I only brought one pair of shoes and about half the tread is gone…go Hokas! I’m taking a risk doing that but I will be returning home a few weeks before Mark and Allison. I will also probably toss the shoes before I get on the flight home… Stinky shoes would not earn my any friends on the plane! (I do have Teva sandals that put on after showering after the days hike.)
