Playing Tourist

First, I promise these Vlog entries will get much shorter once we start walking. There is just so much to see in Prague and our time here is short.

I love my sister Nadine. I put her “in charge” of Prague and she has made sure to make the most of our time here. Her excitement and joy is contagious.

After sleeping-in (something that drove her nuts) we headed off to a local farmers market which Nadine had declared to be “just” across the bridge. Well, we passed the first bridge, then the second, when at the third Nadine replied to my pestering, “It’s just ahead across the next bridge”. Three bridges later (bridge #6), we crossed the river to the market. Haha. It was worth the walk.

Next on tap was a free 2hr walking tour of the old city.

The architecture and history were awesome- tour highly recommend- but afterwards we were thirsty and a bit hungry too.

One of the amazing features of Prague is the astronomical clock. People queue en mass to see a rather unremarkable but quaint mechanical clock motion. Next we got our first Pilgrim Stamp at the Basilica of St James

In the midst of our tour Prague was celebrating an international cultural festival. I have a cool compilation video of some of it but it’s taking too long to upload to YouTube so you’ll have to wait on that prize.

Maybe because we’re mentally in the mode of walking, after our 2hr walking tour we signed up for another 1-1/2hr underground walking tour.

Much to our dismay, that tour was kind of a bust. Very little was underground and the portion that was felt staged. There was stuff to see, but we all had something more unique in mind. Oh well!

By this time our legs were tired and we still had the steep climb back up to our lodging and then farther up to the “nearby” Strahov monastery where we were to have dinner. The climb wasn’t too bad, but we definitely felt it.

After a nice dinner (I had goulash and the girls both had a hummus, cauliflower, red pepper salad), we crept back down to our apartment and crashed.

I’ll leave you with this fun bit of AI from our walk home this evening.

Tomorrow will be a special day.

Nadine’s Take

I awoke to church bells early this morning….it’s one of my favorite memories of other trips on Camino! Today was a full day as Mark indicated and yet there’s so much to see!  I think one of the highlights for me today was learning about the Jewish area in Prague.  I wish we had more time to delve deeper but we did SO MUCH today covering about 10 miles on foot… It’s the warm-up for Monday!!
